How I'm practicing my Word of the Year
There is no no greater therapy for me than this. Snow shoes. The trees. The snow. And the sky.
What is your medicine? And how are you taking it in today?
I hosted my annual Word of the Year call on January 31st and I shared that my word this year is FREEDOM.
And as it typically goes for me, I get a great opportunity to test out my devotion to my Word of the Year as soon as I claim it!
Since the call last week, both my girls and I have been sick and we've had multiple storms and snow days here in Maine.
In addition to this, I've been feeling the anxiety of yet another tumultuous week of news and events here in the U.S. and abroad.
So how do I practice freedom, even when we're stuck at home in snow?
How do I practice freedom, even when I'm sick and in bed?
How do I practice and promote freedom in the current political climate of fear and isolation?
In order to live my Word of the Year, I always begin with what is SIMPLE and DOABLE.
How I'm committing to freedom at this time:
- I'm getting outside and moving my body in the snow as often as I can. Sunshine, movement, and time in nature are my medicine.
- With the girls and I home sick I have cleared a lot of my schedule so we have the freedom and spaciousness to recover with greater ease, connection, and peace.
- I'll admit this one has been harder for me, but I'm doing my best to take breaks, whether it be for an evening or a whole day, from reading social media and news media, especially if I notice I'm feeling anxious about what's happening in the world.
If I am to live with greater FREEDOM, than I must take actions that make me FEEL this way.
Over to you:
What is your Word of the Year? And what actions are you taking to FEEL or CULTIVATE that word?
And as you tune into your WOTY, how do you envision this word rippling out and making a positive impact outside of you and your own life?
My bigger intention is to be in devotion to cultivating and supporting as much freedom for others as I can in our larger world, both as a healer and as an activist. I'll be sharing more in the coming weeks about how I'm making this happen!
Today I am wishing you the freedom to cultivate and live by your own word or intention this year. I'd love to hear about how you're living your Word in the comments below!
With warmth & light,
